The potent combo of Sinners and South of Midnight

You can't plan for this kind of synergy.

There needs to be a word or phrase for those rare moments when a game you’re playing syncs up perfectly with something else you’re watching or reading.

Case in point: Compulsion Games' South of Midnight and Ryan Coogler’s Sinners. The first is a gorgeous action game that feels like a playable stop-motion animated film. The latter is a mesmerizing horror tale with stellar performances from an ensemble cast led by Michael B. Jordan. Both stories are heavily rooted in Southern folklore and other spiritual traditions, touching on themes of family, legacy, and the power of music.

Their soundtracks are phenomenal as well — though for very different reasons. Even though it wasn’t necessary, I felt more prepared going into Sinners’ world of spirits and vampires because I had already spent a good amount of time in South of Midnight.

It’s a powerful one-two punch of mythical storytelling, and I strongly recommend seeing and playing both if you can!
